5 Top Tips of Success

Incorporate these skills into your strategy for success and you’ll move forward quicker than you ever dreamed!

• Hustle: generally, people who make it big have one thing in common—they are dissatisfied with the status quo. They will not take what is “common” or “expected” and let that define their lives—they move past it and excel. You must work hard and hustle.

• Character: someone coined the phrase, “character is what you do in the dark.” In other words, when no one is looking, will you behave differently than if someone was looking? If not, then you have character. If you are attacked, be tough—not hard. Don’t be a pushover, but be compassionate, gentle, and flexible—especially on procedure (not principle).

• Risk Taking: this isn’t gambling, it’s a willingness to be bold, hearty, and to push forward. People who refuse to take risks are definitely going to lose. If you refuse a new promotion because you’re not confident of your skills, you will likely be passed over when a different chance arrives.
Don’t be afraid of rejection, just take it as part of life and you’ll find there’s nothing to be afraid of—especially in the word “no.” “No” is just another opportunity to find a way around an obstacle and to use creative problem-solving skills.

• Time Management: we all know that one minute has 60 seconds and that one hour has 60 minutes. One day has 24 hours, and one year has 365 days. But one year also has 525,600 minutes. We don’t think about a year in such small increments, but maybe we should. We waste minutes as if they’ll always be around, and the fact is that time wasted is time we can never get back. We might miss a deal or promotion of a lifetime by wasting just a few minutes.
Proper time management is essential as you climb to success. Continue to break goals down in to manageable chunks—do that with relation to your day and the time you’ve been given. You’ll accomplish far more this way and you won’t regret using your time wisely.

• Master Non-Verbal Communication: it is said that our body language and facial expressions do much more communicating than our words will ever do. When the words that you speak don’t match the expressions on your face or the stance of your body, you confuse the listener and muddle your message.
Be aware that when you try to “multi-task,” you often end up short-changing something, and the last thing you want is to short-change people. Don’t try to do too much at once—your willingness to do this tells people they aren’t important, even if you’re expressing your appreciation of their work and effort. Be aware of what message your body is sending off!

27 Health Tips

27 Health Tips - Practical Health Guides

This booklet contains 27 selected health tips compiled by the editors of PRACTICAL HEALTH GUIDES.They are effective and easy to follow.
Many are based on recent research, while others were known in ancient times.
But they have all been proven to be effective.
So keep this guide close at hand and make the advice it offers a part of your daily life.

Did you know that just walking for 30 minutes, 3 or 4 times a week is enough to combat aging?
According to researchers at the University of California, one of the principle causes of deterioration of the human organism's physical faculties is its diminished ability to metabolize glucose.
And they showed that even leisurely exercise, like taking a walk, plays an important role in keeping glucose metabolism functioning smoothly.

Do you spend the whole day sitting at your desk or in front of a computer screen?
Why not get up occasionally and do a few minutes of physical exercise?
Don't worry about what other people think. In some Japanese companies, it is even become a collective habit.
Every twenty minutes a bell sounds, and everybody gets up to do some stretching exercises, after which they sit down again as if nothing had happened.
Japanese managers are convinced that their employees are more productive when they are relaxed. It is okay to worry, but at the right time.
Psychologists at the University of Pennsylvania tell patients who suffer from anxiety to regularly do a daily twenty minute "worry session," always at the same time and in the same place.
Collect your head full of worries during the day (don't suppress them!) and then pour them out during your daily worry session.
Exaggerate your worries to the point of absurdity - knit your brows, make faces, let the sweat flow, shake and cower as much as you like.In other words, make a caricature of the part of yourself that is always worried, and in so doing exorcise it.
Eliminating worry will help prevent numerous psychosomatic illnesses, which result from living in a state of permanent anxiety. If you sleep on your stomach or on your left side, you are putting pressure on your heart with the extra body weight, while the heart has to continue pumping blood as usual.
This additional burden wears the heart out more quickly.
Think about it - you spend more than one third of your life sleeping!
To reduce the strain on your heart, sleep on your right side, or on your back.
This simple technique will add years to your life.
If you smoke, you can greatly reduce the risk of contracting cancer by drinking carrot juice.
This according to the German Doctor Hans Nieper, founder of Eumatabolic Medicine, a new alternative mode of treatment which has become very popular in Germany.
The carotene found especially in carrots prevents and can even cure cancer.
Dr. Nieper states, "If you smoke 60 cigarettes a day but drink 4 glasses of carrot juice, you will still be less prone to contract cancer than someone who doesn't smoke but who doesn't drink carrot juice."
Of course, if you don't smoke and do drink carrot juice all the better!
Avoid eye problems caused by T.V. and monitors
The eye was not made to be constantly focused on close objects.
If your work requires that you stare at a computer screen all day long or if you watch a lot of television, stop from time to time to do a few eye exercises.
For example, roll your eyes in large circles in both directions; look over to each side as far as possible and then go from up to down; or scan an imaginary text on the wall from left to right; or look out the window as far as you can following the horizon then return to a point right in front of you and begin again.
In this way, you will avoid long term eye problems, you will enlarge your inner space, and relax both your eyes and your mind.
Asthma partially obstructs the bronchial tubes, making breathing difficult.
The cause of asthma is still not known.
But if you are an asthma sufferer, you can, through natural means, considerably reduce the number of asthma attacks you get.
A placebo study has shown that asthmatics who consume 1 gram of vitamin C per day had 4 times fewer attacks.
As for magnesium, it also works wonders!
Dr. Zack H. Haddad of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southern California conducted a study on thirty children suffering from asthma associated with allergies.
Twenty of them drank a daily amount of mineral water rich in magnesium, while the others received no magnesium supplement.
After three months, the first group had a higher level of magnesium in their blood, and they were able to breathe more easily.
So taking vitamin C and magnesium is an excellent way to prevent asthma attacks.
But what can you do to breathe more easily during an attack?
Simply drink 2 or 3 cups of strong coffee.
By activating blood circulation, it eases respiratory blockage.
Before doing anything, make sure you don't do what you absolutely shouldn't: rub or press the eye, lift the eyelid, or remove contact lenses without washing your hands.
Tears and natural eye movements will usually get rid of the irritation. You can pull on the skin around the eyes, but don't touch the eyelid.
· If this doesn't work, wash your hands, and then lift both the upper and lower eyelids to locate the irritant.
If you have liver spots, it is up to you to get rid of them.
So much has been said in praise of Vitamin C. So it is not surprising that it is also effective in treating allergic reactions like hayfever.
We recommend taking Vitamin C in the form of ascorbate rather then ascorbic acid.
When taken in ascorbic acid form, it can cause gastro-intestinal disorders. To fight an allergic reaction, you should consume up to 8 grams.
Start with a dose of 3 grams. Every three hours, take another 1 or 2 grams, until the symptoms disappear completely.
The condition is not dramatically serious, but it does bloat the stomach and can prove embarrassing (stomach gurgles, etc.)
How to prevent it?
Above all chew your food properly and savor it fully.
Swallowing too much is a direct cause of aerophagy.
Don't drink a lot when you eat.
Avoid tobacco and alcohol, cabbage, radishes, doughy bread, strong spices and bubbly drinks.
Don't eat food that is too hot or too cold.
And pay attention to the kinds of food you eat together: make a note of any combination that seems to provoke an attack and avoid it in future.
Heartburn usually results from excess acidity in the stomach, or from improper functioning of your digestive system.
At the point where the esophagus and stomach join, a special muscle opens and closes the esophagus.
When we swallow food this muscle relaxes to let the food pass into the stomach after which it closes again.
But it can happen that the muscle malfunctions.
The contents of the stomach then rise back up the esophagus, irritating the area.
And this results in the infamous feeling of heartburn.
Avoid acidic foods (lemons, etc.), alcohol, fat or fried food, food that is overcooked, coffee, juice, tomato base products and chocolate.
Rather, observe which foods bring on heartburn and avoid them.
Also, don't go to sleep right after eating (you should eat supper around 7 o'clock) and don't smoke, especially after meals.
If we offered you a miracle remedy that prevents cardiac disease, certain types of cancer, diabetes, obesity, tooth decay and varicose veins, would you buy it?
But it is not a recent discovery and you won't find it in a pharmacy but at the grocery store.
A study conducted in Holland on 871 men, over a period of ten years, showed that subjects who had a low fiber diet were three times more susceptible to mortal disease - causes notwithstanding than those who ate a lot of fiber (Future Youth).
This said, it cannot be confirmed at present that fiber prevents the above mentioned diseases in all cases.
But there is conclusive proof that they occur more frequently in populations with low fiber diets which is precisely the case in the west.
According to The Lancet (the British Medical Journal) a diet which contains at least 37 grams of fiber per day (the equivalent of one cup of bran, one apple, one potato and a half cup of cooked spinach) can effectively protect the organism against chronic illnesses common to western society.
So fiber is useful in combatting many disorders besides constipation.
Notably white bread (since fiber is removed in white flour), beef, pork, chicken, milk, butter, cheese, sugar, processed meats, desserts, fish, seafood and noodles.
· Whole grains: barley, whole wheat (you should eat whole wheat bread because of the bran it contains), oats, corn.
Note that there are numerous types of fiber, and that you should alternate between them.
For example, the fiber contained in apples and the fiber in cereals are both essential, since they don't have the same digestive function.
· First cut down on saturated fats.
Select lean cuts and ask your butcher to cut off the fat.
· Drink skim milk instead of whole milk.
Do the same for all dairy products.
Note that vegetarians have a much lower cholesterol level (almost twice as low as average) which is perfectly understandable, since cholesterol is only found in products derived from animals.
Not more than two glasses a day.
However, it does appear that drinking a moderate amount of alcohol raises the number of HDL lipids (the good ones!), which break down cholesterol.(Moderation = two 4 oz. glasses of wine or two 12 oz. beers.)
· Do regular exercise, for example walking.
· Take Vitamin E. It reduces the risk of coronary disease.
· Calcium brewer's yeast, Vitamin C and Vitamin B-6 also combat the accumulation of cholesterol.and angina (as well as psoriasis, anxiety and diabetes - and reduces the likelihood of contracting cancer).
Losing weight is a good way to raise your HDL level.
· Use poly-unsaturated, non-hydrogenated, cold pressed oil: corn oil, sunflower seed oil, soy, flax etc.
· Daily consumption of fish would be ideal for preventing cardio-vascular problems, as demonstrated conclusively in a number of studies on fish-eating populations (Eskimos for example).
Prepare an infusion (tea) preferably using the fresh plant: 3 1/2 tablespoons of roots per quart of water.
It aids digestion and the elimination of intestinal gas, it soothes stomach cramps, aerophagy, dyspepsia (contractions of the digestive organs, dizziness and a heavy feeling after eating).
· Calcium supplements (1 gram per day) and magnesium (500 milligrams) can help reduce anxiety (always take both).
Applied to a wound, it can prevent infection by helping white blood corpuscles and fresh oxygen surround the area more quickly.

How To Improve Your Communication Skills-6 Ways by Peter Murphy

If you are looking for a way to improve your communication skills,
there are many resources available that will assist you in
refining your social skills and improving the way you
communicate with others.

It's not only possible to learn how to improve your communication
skills; it's easier than you think.

Imagine how much simpler your life would be if you could
rid yourself of nagging self-doubt and have confidence
knowing you can handle any social situation.

Have you ever wondered how some people seem to excel at
socializing? Learning how to improve your social skills
will give you the ability to know what to say in any
situation and be the type of person others love to be
around.

You can develop the skills needed to start a conversation
with anyone you encounter, deal effectively with awkward
situations, accept rejection gracefully, and win the
approval and appreciation of all that you encounter.

You will be able to read the body language of others,
effectively solve problems, and develop the ability to
diffuse sensitive situations with seemingly little effort.

In the process of learning how to improve your communication
skills, your self-esteem will soar and your confidence will
reach an all-time high.

Here are 6 great tips you can use today:

1. Awareness of your own interaction with other people is
the first step in improving your communication skills.

Learn to identify which types of situations make you
uncomfortable and then modify your behavior to achieve
positive results is a critical step in improving your
communication skills.

You can learn to become aware of behaviors in other people
that prompt you to respond in negative ways and modify your
own behavior to turn the situation into a positive
experience.

2. You must accept responsibility for your own behavior and
do not fear apologizing for errors in judgment or
insensitive actions.

Asking others for honest feedback about the way you
interact with others can be very helpful. Accept the
negative feedback along with the positive and make changes
accordingly.

3. Your non-verbal communication is equally as important as
the things that you say. Positive body language is
extremely important in your interactions with other people.

If your words and your actions do not match, you will have
a difficult time succeeding in social situations.

4. In order to learn how to improve your communication skills, you
must become and great listener. You must fight the urge to
respond immediately and really listen to what the other
person is trying to communicate.

Offering suggestions or criticism before you are certain of
the other person's intent can only lead to frustration for
both parties.

5. Improving your communication skills is a process and cannot be
accomplished overnight. Trying to improve or change too
many things at once will be counter-productive.

You will become discouraged and overwhelmed if you attempt
to change your entire personality all at once. Choose one
or two traits at a time and work on those over a period of
time. Learn to take advantage of your personal strengths
and make a positive impact on others.

6. Maximize your positive personality traits and use them
in your interactions with others. Good communication and
great listening skills are the most important tools you can
use in improving your communication skills.

You can learn how to improve your communication skills by
developing excellent listening skills, learning to resolve
problems and conflicts, understanding body language, and
accepting responsibility for your own negative behavior.

improve your communication skills a reality.

Creating Positive Change

Many of us have tried goal-setting techniques of some kind. There are so many variations of the theme - and some work better than others.
Without realising it, when we choose to do some goal-setting, we are almost always doing our best to move away from something that we don't like, and towards something that we wish we had, or could do. Trouble is, we usually stay focused on what we're moving away from.

"One of the greatest requirements for success is a vision of the destination. The journey itself will reveal the means to take you there."

The following has been proven to be the methodology of gaining real (and sustainable) results. I'll keeep this as short as possible - so stick with me here.

To create any positive change in our lives we need to follow a process:

1. We need to desire that change. Even better - we need to be passionate about creating it!
2. We need to visualise the outcome having actually happened at a date in the future.
3. We need commitment to work at creating that change. Yep - more passion here!
4. We then need to take some form of action/s to create the change, regardless of what the change may be. (As the above quote says; the means [action/s] will reveal themselves.)

"Desire for anything, without taking the appropriate action, will forever be just a desire."

There is one principle that we should remember at all times: "Whatever we focus on in life expands in every way". We create our own reality.

To explain: If I ask people at workshops what they want to change in their lives, invariably their answer is something like this, "I don't want to be broke any more"; or "I'm sick of being overweight"; or "I don't want to be lonely" ..... etc.
The focus in each of those examples is on "being broke"; "being overweight"; and "being lonely".
Consequently, our subconscious minds work with whatever we're focused on, and therefore strive to maintain the focused goal, even though it is the exact opposite of what we really hope to achieve.
Subtle difference? Too right it is! And it is the most important principle of achieving any positive change - regardless of the nature of the change!

Another principle: "Focus on what you want; rather than on what you don't want"!
Using slightly different words, but staying with that principle, "We need to focus on what we're moving towards - instead of focusing on what we're moving away from"! Remember - The Destination.
Let's take two of the most common personal examples, and run with them ....

1. Weight-Loss
Hmmmmm - where's the focus here? Yep - it's on the weight, so guess what? It stays!
Just a little reminder about something quite funny here .... if we lose anything at all, what do we always do? Absolutely right! .... we go and look for it until we find it. Same goes with weight loss.

2. Don't want to be broke any more
Yep - focus is on the broke bit .... so it hangs around too! It's just the way it is, so don't feel as if you're the only one not capable of cracking the 'Prosperity Code'.
OK - one at a time - here is a total process that WILL work.

1. Becoming Lean and Trim
Sound better? Are you passionate about achieving this? Have you really that desire?
OK then - let's go.
Pick a weight-down goal that you wish to achieve somewhere in the near future. If you're 100 kilos today and your ideal weight (as per all the books) is 75 kilos - then how about choosing an achievable weight of say 90 kilos on 9th January? It is important to choose an achievable weight, and it is also critical to choose a date somewhere like 90 days out. The whole idea is to actually picture yourself on the 9th Jan - lean and trim - weighing 90 kilos. The two best ways of doing this are by using creative visualisations, and meditation techniques (using creative visualisations as part of that process anyway).
This is where the commitment and passion come in now. You must stay totally committed to achieving this goal and remember to stay focused on being lean and trim on 9th Jan 2006.
Some of the actions that are required to achieve this 90 kilos on 9th Jan could be:Seriously look at your diet. What we put in our mouths really does make a HUGE difference. How about a Gymnasium program? Taking up a new sport? Walking for half an hour each day? Get a Personal Trainer or a buddy to walk with. You'll know what's right for you.
And stick with it .... if you're to achieve your goal - YOU MUST STICK WITH IT!
Once you're at 90 kilos on 9th Jan 2006 - then move to another achievable weight-down figure and use this process.

2. Creating Abundance, Prosperity, or Wealth
That's a bit better than 'I don't want to be broke any more'.
Very similar routine to the one above ....
You need to focus on abundance (rather than lack) and essentially, fake it 'til you make it!It is a huge one to crack because lots of us have been programmed to live in a world of lack. Focus on being abundant NOW - even if that seems crazy 'cos you're broke right now.
Be committed to creating prosperity and wealth. Be truly passionate about it and believe that it is happening, and stay focused, really focused, on this miracle that can happen for you.
Pick an achievable goal, and pick a date to create that goal (same as becoming lean and trim) and then move towards it.

Some actions that may help:
Start to read books like these ....
Think and Grow Rich (Napoleon Hill)
As a Man Thinketh (James Allen)
The Way of Peace (James Allen)
Science of Getting Rich (Wallace D. Wattles)
Principals of Success (Brian Tracey)
Visualize and Achieve (Remez Sasson)
Inside The Minds of Winners (Brian Tracy)

If you're an employee, think about gaining a better position. One that serves you, and pays well too.
If you own your own business, start to focus on gaining better clients, or having a better product or service that people are prepared to pay highly for. If you've got your own business, are you hiring the right people who are focused on treating your clients like gold, so that your clients will bring you gold?If not - then try it - it works!

Find yourself a Financial Coach;
start to work on your business by creating better relationships with everyone you meet - every day; start to build a network of like-minded business associates who you can trust and rely on as friends.

If you're unemployed, then start to work on you. Do everything that you can to learn and grow - you will get there if you have the committment, the passion to succeed, and take the necessary actions to make it happen.
I've been working with long-term unemployed people for a few years now - and the results have been amazing if they can take responsibility for where they're at - and have a desire to change that.
A reminder to stay focused on what you want to create!
Move towards it, but also enjoy the journey!
Pick a date in the future; go to that date in your mind; and then create in that picture (on that date) exactly what it is that you have chosen as your goal. There are far too many techniques for me to go into right here and now - but there are book shops, and the internet, full of answers if you're willing to find them.
Stick with it .... using that desire, passion to succeed, committment and appropriate actions!
There is so much to gain from using this process in every area of our lives.
It is also important to remember to enjoy the journey and not just be totally focused on reaching the station. Almost a contradiction, but not quite. Obsessive focus on the destination only, can ruin the enjoyment of the journey itself.

If all this seems too hard, too complicated, just too darned involved and 'out there' then I prompt you to simply focus on the principles involved. Most of all on focusing on 'what you want' instead of focusing on 'what you don't want'. I assure you that if you can learn to do that, you will create incredible change for the better in your life.
Have a great week of being good to yourself and others.
Remember: "What others do or say is their stuff; how we react, or not, is our stuff"!
